Exploring The Importance Of Air Conditioner Maintenance

Hello, my name is Darby Aldrich. I would like to talk to you about the importance of maintaining your air conditioning system. When I moved to a hot climate, I did not realize how vital having a running air conditioner was for living comfortably. When the unit just stopped working one day, the temperature inside the house rivaled the piping hot weather outdoors. We had to go to the community center to keep the kids from feeling sick. While we were gone, we had a local HVAC contractor fix the unit. She let us know that some simple maintenance tasks would prevent that situation in the future. I will use this site to closely explore those tasks in great detail. I hope you can use the information to keep your air conditioner running like new. Thanks.

Why Some HVAC Contractors Choose To Focus On Just Air Conditioning

Blog

HVAC contractors go through a lengthy education and training process to do the jobs they do. That said, you might be wondering why some of them would only focus on one particular aspect of their training. Actually, there are a lot of decent reasons that an HVAC contractor would choose to focus on just one area of knowledge and training.

Like Doctors, Lawyers, and Veterinarians, There Are Multiple Disciplines

HVAC contractors learn about heating, ventilation, and air conditioning. They also learn about residential and commercial differences and numerous appliances for which they are responsible in their lines of work. Like doctors, lawyers, and veterinarians, HVAC technicians' training provides them with a wide scope of practice and employment opportunities.

When an HVAC contractor chooses to just focus on, say, air conditioning repairs instead of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning, then they do not have to stretch themselves to capacity to fix, repair, and install everything. Like the other professions, one discipline or one branch is chosen. That is more than enough in terms of available work.

Even with Air Conditioning, There Are Specialties

Now, let's say that an HVAC contractor does choose to provide only AC services. There are even more specialties in this area than just repairing air conditioners.

The AC-only contractor can:

  • Specialize in residential AC
  • Specialize in commercial AC
  • Choose to do or not do refrigeration repairs on refrigerators and freezers
  • Install and uninstall various AC systems
  • Repair specific types of AC systems
  • Opt to only install standard central air conditioning units, OR heat pumps, OR geothermal units
  • Specialize in refrigeration and freezer repairs only
  • Etc., etc.

As you can see, even when an HVAC contractor chooses to avoid one or more aspects of their job and training, they still have to be specific in regards to what they will fix, install, and/or replace. There are a lot of duties involved!

Working in the South

When an HVAC contractor works in the South, it is mostly hot and humid all the time. HVAC contractors in the lower half of the "lower 48" states and Hawaii are constantly working on air conditioners, refrigerators, freezers, and anything else that is meant for cooling and freezing. By choosing to work solely on air conditioning repair in the southern states and/or Hawaii, an HVAC contractor here is just doing what makes the most sense for their business: following the need for cold air.
