Exploring The Importance Of Air Conditioner Maintenance

Hello, my name is Darby Aldrich. I would like to talk to you about the importance of maintaining your air conditioning system. When I moved to a hot climate, I did not realize how vital having a running air conditioner was for living comfortably. When the unit just stopped working one day, the temperature inside the house rivaled the piping hot weather outdoors. We had to go to the community center to keep the kids from feeling sick. While we were gone, we had a local HVAC contractor fix the unit. She let us know that some simple maintenance tasks would prevent that situation in the future. I will use this site to closely explore those tasks in great detail. I hope you can use the information to keep your air conditioner running like new. Thanks.

A Pest Infestation Can Lead To Heating System Repairs

Blog

If you have a pest problem in your home, it is not something you want to ignore. Not only can rodents and insects affect the comfortability of your home, but they can also impact the efficiency of your heating system. Learn why a pest infestation and a heating system are never a good pair.

Airflow Restrictions

Rodents, such as mice, generally venture inside a home during the colder months to find a warm and safe shelter. Unfortunately, this shelter can be ductwork. As the mice establish their home and build a nest, they create an obstruction within the ductwork that can negatively impact the ability of the warm air to flow through and eventually out of your vents.

This limited airflow forces the heater to work harder, which can cause it to fail prematurely. It is also worth noting that air in ducts will flow past the waste products that collect in these nests and ultimately into your home, which can present health concerns.

Electrical Issues

Smaller insects, such as cockroaches, can make their way inside the heating unit itself and cause electrical issues. Modern heating systems rely largely on sensors and electrical panels to both monitor the air temperature and power the unit.

A problem these smaller insects present is that once they get inside the unit, they can damage these fragile components, which can be costly to repair, if not catastrophic. For example, if the sensor inside the heater is damaged, the unit may lack the ability to shut itself off, which can cause the furnace motor to fail.

Insulation and Heat Connection

Yes, the insulation in a home and its heating unit are two different systems, but it is important to remember that they have a very close connection. When the insulation is damaged, it reduces a home's ability to naturally keep itself warmer. As a result, the heating system has to work harder.

Excessive use of a heating system increases the rate of wear and tear and ultimately leads to damages that require repair. Squirrels, mice, and raccoons are just some of the pests that damage insulation. So, if you have a problem with any of these rodents, you need to take action.

If you had a pest issue, it is a good idea to have a professional look over your system to ensure there was not any damage caused or to repair any problems. Make sure you contact a professional heating repair service and a pest service if you have these issues.
