Exploring The Importance Of Air Conditioner Maintenance

Hello, my name is Darby Aldrich. I would like to talk to you about the importance of maintaining your air conditioning system. When I moved to a hot climate, I did not realize how vital having a running air conditioner was for living comfortably. When the unit just stopped working one day, the temperature inside the house rivaled the piping hot weather outdoors. We had to go to the community center to keep the kids from feeling sick. While we were gone, we had a local HVAC contractor fix the unit. She let us know that some simple maintenance tasks would prevent that situation in the future. I will use this site to closely explore those tasks in great detail. I hope you can use the information to keep your air conditioner running like new. Thanks.

3 Tips To Help You Troubleshoot Common Issues With Your Air Conditioning

Blog

There are few things less comfortable than a home that is exceptionally hot because the air conditioning has stopped working. Thankfully, many common issues with your home's air conditioning system can be resolved rather quickly if you know what steps to take. While some more severe issues will still require the services of an HVAC contractor in order to get your air conditioner back up and running, taking the time to complete the troubleshooting steps described below can still be beneficial even in these situations as they will help your air conditioning contractor to more quickly narrow down the source of your cooling problems.

Always Start By Checking Your Thermostat Settings

Your home's cooling system relies on your thermostat to provide it with vital information in order to determine when it is time to cycle on and off. If the settings on your thermostat are not set correctly, this can prevent your air conditioner from getting the signal it needs in order to know it is time to turn on.

If your home makes use of a digital thermostat, begin by making sure the batteries in the digital display are providing power to the thermostat. If these batteries have died, you will simply need to replace them.

Next, make sure that your fan setting is set to auto instead of the on position. Finally, ensure that the desired temperature is set to a temperature that is at least a few degrees cooler than the current room temperature and that the heat/cool setting is in the cooling position.

Clean Or Replace Your Air Filter

As you can probably imagine, proper airflow is essential to a well-functioning air conditioning system. After all, your air conditioner cannot possibly provide your home with cool air if it is not able to first pull in the warm air from around your home. When the air filter on your system becomes clogged with dust, dirt, and other debris, this filter can prevent your air conditioner from pulling in an adequate air supply. Taking a few minutes to either clean or replace this filter can restore the proper airflow and allow your air conditioner to start working again.

Give Your Air Conditioner A Time Out

While the last thing that you probably want to do when dealing with hot temperatures inside your home is to turn off the air conditioning altogether, giving your cooling system a time out can often help to resolve issues such as an air conditioner that is blowing warm air. This is because these issues are sometimes caused by cooling coils that have frozen over. Giving your air conditioner a break will allow these coils to thaw and result in your air conditioner working much better once you do turn it back on.

Contact a local HVAC technician if you need help with any of these air conditioning services.
