Fix The Bent Fins
Along the side of your central air conditioning unit will be a lot of thin metal fins. Over time, some of those fins will become bent. It is important for them to be separated from each other for optimal airflow. If you notice that some of the fins are bent or moved over, you will want to grab a dinner or butter knife or something similar and carefully insert it in between the fins and slowly move them over into the position they should be in. Just make sure that you are not sticking the knife in too far. Instead, you want to just barely insert the knife so that it can be used to bend the fins back in place.
Vacuum The Fins
Use the soft brush attachment of your vacuum when trying to clean the fins so you do not bend or break any of them. Depending on the model of your central air conditioning, you might have to remove the metal casing in order to have access to all of the fins. Make sure that the metal case is going back on and is tightly secured once you are done with all of the cleaning. With the fins straightened out and cleaned, your central air conditioning unit will have an easier time with air circulation.
Keep The Drain Tube Free Of Clogs
It is important to make sure that the drain tube is free from clogs. If it isn't, you will find that there is a lot of water puddling around the sides of the central air unit. When the drain tube is not cleaned or replaced often enough, it can clog from the piling of slime and bacteria that comes from the unit. If you are not able to do this, you can hire an HVAC company to clean or replace the drain tube for you.
Make sure that you are doing everything you can in order to keep your central air conditioning system in good working order.
