Exploring The Importance Of Air Conditioner Maintenance

Hello, my name is Darby Aldrich. I would like to talk to you about the importance of maintaining your air conditioning system. When I moved to a hot climate, I did not realize how vital having a running air conditioner was for living comfortably. When the unit just stopped working one day, the temperature inside the house rivaled the piping hot weather outdoors. We had to go to the community center to keep the kids from feeling sick. While we were gone, we had a local HVAC contractor fix the unit. She let us know that some simple maintenance tasks would prevent that situation in the future. I will use this site to closely explore those tasks in great detail. I hope you can use the information to keep your air conditioner running like new. Thanks.

3 HVAC Features to Consider

Blog

If you're in the market for a new HVAC system, there are many features you should consider. Some features can make life more enjoyable inside the house, but others can save you money. If you would like to know more, check out these three HVAC features you should consider before you buy.

1. Zoned Heating

Zoned heating/cooling is a great way to save money when heating or cooling your house. Normally, you turn on the heater, and it sends the same amount of heat to various parts of the house. The problem is that you may not be using all those rooms, so you are wasting money heating or cooling unused rooms.

With a zoned heating and cooling system, however, you can choose which parts of the home you want to heat/cool and which parts you don't want to waste energy on. If you're buying a forced-air system, ask about zoned heating because only some systems offer this feature. If you're getting a mini-split system, however, zoned heating/cooling is included.

2. Dehumidifier/Humidifier

If your home has too much moisture or too little moisture in the air, the indoor air can be unpleasant. If your home doesn't have enough humidity, your mucous membranes dry out faster, which increases the risk of getting sick because the mucous can't catch the invaders as well. Other signs of low humidity include chapped skin, dry skin, and a scratchy throat.

On the other hand, if the house has too much humidity, you can also suffer. For starters, humidity adds heat to the air, so your house may not get as cool as you'd like. Thanks to the excess moisture, you may also feel sticky and sweaty all the time. Finally, high humidity can promote mold growth. Choosing a system with a dehumidifier or a humidifier can help balance the moisture in the air to prevent these problems.

3. HEPA Filter

Every furnace and air-conditioner uses a filter to prevent large amounts of dust and debris from getting into the system. However, if you or someone in the house suffers from allergies, you may want to consider a HEPA filter. HEPA filters are more effective at catching smaller irritants and contaminants when compared to other types of filters.

You will still need to change or clean the HEPA filter regularly. If you have animals, you may need to change the filter more often. Since the HEPA filter can catch more contaminates, it is also better at keeping the ducts and air clean.

A new HVAC system can really help, but if you don't get the right one with the right features, you could be wasting your money. Not only can these features keep you cozier in your home, but they can save you money. If you would like to know more, contact an HVAC contractor in your area today.
